Why did I become a Mortgage Agent?

Recently someone asked me why I became a Mortgage Agent. Why indeed?

Why take the risk of basing my income on a fluctuating market, go in competition against others for a piece of the pie, an all hours of the day and night job? Well, actually the answer is relatively simple and and very easy for me.
Some time ago, my husband and I found ourselves in the unenviable position of having been refused a renewal on our mortgage. He’d been laid off suddenly when his company literally shut down at lunch time on a work day and closed its doors. My income was only supplemental, not enough to carry the house and all the associated bills. We were lost, afraid of losing our home – wondering where we would go with 4 growing kids, 2 dogs and a bunch of cats. It was a terrifying prospect.

Then someone introduced us to a Mortgage Agent. We didn’t even know there was such a thing or that this industry existed. But this Agent found us a mortgage at a reasonable rate, consolidated our debts and with a little wiggle room to give my husband time to find a new position so we were able to get back on our feet, keep our home and carry on with our lives. We were so truly grateful to this agent for quite literally saving the day for us.
I didn’t jump right into this, though it was always in the back of my head. Eventually I made the leap – took the Mortgage Agent Level One course through REMIC, studied hard and wrote my exam, passing with a 92% grade.
The next step was to find a brokerage that matched my ethics and goals. I think I interviewed with about a dozen places, some sounded pretty good, some were clearly all about the numbers – not the people. I chose Wolfpack Mortgage Solutions Team for their ethics, integrity, community service and team support. I am so happy I did, I have found a second family here, with great training, terrific management and a core mission of Clients First and Foremost – of treating them like family.

I am now able to help others who may be in a difficult situation, others who feel like there is no one who has their back, others who deserve a second chance. I am honoured to be able to do this, to pay it forward so others can acheive their dreams of home ownership.
That’s why I became a Mortgage Agent.
